Hi, I’m Kate! I’m married to Justin, two sons named David and Luke, and am an avid collector of cats. I only have two at the moment, and we named them Grits and Gravy. Yes, like the essentials of a southern breakfast.
My blog is best known for the video hair tutorials that I started in 2011. I originally made them for my clients to reference, but after a pinning a few to Pinterest I learned that they were actually helpful to more people than I could imagine. Over 100 hair tutorials later, The Small Things Blog has become primarily a hair and beauty blog.
I owned an independent private hair studio, working behind the chair, for 8 years. I locked the doors and handed over the key just before David was born. Now I stay home with the boys and have the pleasure of writing on the blog during the week.
Although the content may focus on superficial things, I don’t believe that is where self-worth comes from. I’m a Christian and am so thankful to have a relationship with the Lord. We attend a great church in the area called The Summit.
Originally from outside of Chicago, I got tired of being cold and migrated down south. I’ve lived in North Carolina for 7 years and currently call Raleigh home.
I love chocolate cake and lipstick. Oh and I always have bobby pins and hairspray in my purse. You know, in case of emergencies.
It’s been an honor to share my work on RealSimple.com (here, here and here) and Birchbox.com. I’ve also had the pleasure of working with brands like Home Goods, Refinery 29, Stokke, and 4moms.
